The classic Richmond Hotel sits in the heart of Miami Beach's Art Deco District, directly on the Atlantic with a palm-lined swimming pool and spa between the hotel and the beach. The Art-Deco Richmond is probably the last of the local, family-owned hotels still operated by its original family. Built in 1941, the restored and modernized hotel remains a great example of the architecture of the World War II period. The location is excellent - just three blocks from Lincoln Road with its bistros and abundant shops and, of course, close to the glitz and glamour of South Beach's clubs, boutiques and cafes.
Guests can work out in the hotel's fitness center, swim in the outdoor pool or half-moon spa pool, and then loll around on umbrella-shaded chairs and loungers. Just past the area, guests will discover a private walkway leading to the beach, where they can rent loungers and cabanas. The hotel's rooftop also features a terrace and a solarium. The Richmond's Verandah Restaurant serves espresso and breakfasts. Although the hotel doesn't have its own restaurant for lunch and dinner, guests can find plenty other dining options around the area.
Simple and modest guestrooms feature all-white bedding, down comforters and blond-oak bed frames along with touches such as red umbrellas, original bathroom tiles, 1930s-inspired clocks, Deco-inspired floor lamps, and minibars. Framed, enlarged prints of Miami Beach postcards, circa 1940, decorate the walls.
Guests at the Richmond are a mix of singles, couples and small groups. Hint: Art Center South Florida on Lincoln Road is a great place to escape the crowds and tour studios of working artists.
